As a senior portrait photographer, I know that not every picture needs to be taken professionally. There are instances when capturing the memories themselves as they happen is more important than the “quality” of the picture itself. And these memories - the ones that aren’t posed and happen spur of the moment - can mean so much.
Having said that, here are some recommendations for cameras to document the various times of your senior year.
Canon PowerShot ELPH 190 Digital Camera
This point and shoot camera worth only $149 on Amazon is compact, easy to use and has a 20 MP camera and can capture videos in 720p. It’s also wi-fi and NFC enabled which makes sharing your images really easy.
Kodak PIXPRO
The Kodak PixPro has a 16mp camera and takes HD 720p videos. Just like the Canon Powershot it’s lightweight and compact. Since it’s only $74, it’s a great purchase for your senior year photographs.
Sony DSCW830 20.1 MP Digital Camera
One of the highest rated Digital cameras on Amazon, and selected as Editors choice the Sony DSC is a point and shoot camera that’s easy to use and compact. It takes magnificent pictures with its 20.1 MP camera - regardless of the setting.
DBPOWER EX7000 Sports Action Camera 4K
Action cameras are perfect if you’re into extreme sports or outdoor activities. But in senior year who has $240 to splurge on a GoPro? So, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced camera that’ll still do the job of capturing your memories the DBPOWER is a cheap alternative. It’s only $40 and takes 4K HD video and 14MP stills. It’s also waterproof, which makes it the perfect starter action cam.
[Unbranded] Digital Vlogging Camera
This unbranded camera can be used both as a vlogging camera and a digital point and shoot camera. Because it allows you to flip the screen forward and watch as you’re recording. It takes fantastic 24MP photographs, which is comparable to entry level and even mid-level DSLRs and films 1080p videos. If you’re interested in vlogging or just documenting your senior year this is the camera to do that! And for only $90 it’s definitely worth it.
Polaroid Originals OneStep 2 VF
The Polaroid Originals has the same look and feel as the 80s polaroid, so it’s truly vintage. The only thing about it is that it needs a bit more TLC to ensure you’re getting the quality of picture you deserve. But once you get the hang of it it’s certainly going to become one of the most iconic cameras you’ve ever owned. Even if you don’t plan on taking senior year pictures with this camera you can still use it as decor and display it on top of a bunch of books you don’t read.
Polaroid Snap Instant Digital Camera (Red)
Besides the really vibrant red that makes this Polaroid beautiful, the specs and ease of use make it perfect for Polaroid noobs. The camera sports Polaroids ZINK technology which means there isn’t the worry of ink so you can take and print your photographers. But, unlike other Polaroid cameras this point and shoot camera also allows you to save your images to share or upload later. For only $85, it’s a pretty great deal.
Kodak PRINTOMATIC Digital Instant Print Camera (Blue)
With a price difference of $30 between the Kodak PRINTOMATIC and the Polaroid Snap, this is the perfect alternative if you want the same features but are on a budget. Costing only $55 the Kodak PRINTOMATIC has all the same features as the Polaroid and even takes exceptional lowlight pictures. Perfect for daily use during senior year.
Instax Mini Link Smartphone Printer
No, this is not a camera, but it’s the perfect accessory for your smartphone if you’re not interested in purchasing a separate device for pictures. It allows you to easily and quickly print mini photographs wherever you are. That way you can easily document your senior activities on your smartphone and get that same Polaroid experience without having to buy another camera.
Fujifilm Quicksnap Flash 400 Single-Use Camera with Flash
This disposable camera that costs a mere $29.50 doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the others cameras on this list but it’s still an amazing purchase, if for no other reason than sentiment. Unlike other cameras you’ll have to take the film to be developed when using any disposable camera. Besides that, you’ll also have a limited amount of photographs to take which forces you to be more intentional with the photographs you’re taking.
