When it comes to posing hands in pictures, there is a lot that you can do. As a professional photographer, I have noticed that some of my high school and college senior clients struggle when it comes to posing their hands. This is totally normal and true of all of us really.
But never fear, I’ve got you! During our senior photoshoot, I will teach you everything that you will need to know about posing so you can relax, enjoy the moment, and have some fun!
Here are some ideas on what you can do with your arms and hands during a photoshoot...
1. Arms Down by Your Side
Simple and easy. There is nothing wrong with just placing your arms by your side. Try to not look to robotic and do have a slight bend in your elbows so the pose looks natural. Roll your shoulders back a little and relax into the pose. That’s it! You got it!
2. Hands in Pockets
The next pose is a winner every time! Just place one or both of your hands comfortably inside your pockets. You can use the pockets in the front of or behind your jeans, in your jacket, or in your dress (if they are there). Relax your elbows and shoulders for a natural look and you are done! It is the easiest pose to conquer in no time.
3. Fold Your Arms
Simply do a power pose and fold your arms in front of your person. Done! Add a great smile, and laugh, or a natural facial expression to complete the look. This pose exudes confidence.
4. Play with Your Hair
Ladies, if you are struggling about what to do with your hands while posing, a great option is to lightly play with your hair to capture a beautiful picture. Don’t mess up your hair-do, but lightly touch your hair. Once again, this pose is super easy and natural as we usually find ourselves playing with our hair all the time.
5. Hand Under the Chin
Whether you want to hide your chin or do not know what to do with your hands, you just need to place your hand under the chin and tilt you head slightly to one side for an amazing shot.
6. Hold a Prop
Another super easy pose to try – just hold something. It can be the cap and tassel from your graduation cap and gown outfit, a bunch of flowers, a book, a pair of sunglasses, your dog…
7. Lean Against Something
This pose works great with any structure or item that is tall and sturdy… a wall, railing, a column, a car, or a tree will do the trick.
9. Throw Up a Peace Sign
Lastly, show off your fun side and throw up a few peace signs or bunny ears.
