1 // Wear Dark, Neutral Tones
Dark tones exude professionalism – think gray and navy. Bright, bold colors are distracting on pictures and will divert attention from you to your outfit. Although a pop of color can be okay in the right setting.
But, if you’re unsure, ask your photographer for some advice or to get the go-ahead for your outfit. You can also look at the headshots of other executives in your company to get an idea of what is appropriate.
2 // Perfect Your Posture
Experts believe that up to 93% of communication is non-verbal, which means your eyes and body language say more than you do. With that logic, it makes sense why a picture is worth a thousand words.
For great body language work on your posture. It’s okay to lean for emphasis and dramatic effect, but not because you’re slouching. You should also try to keep
3 // Do Big Changes To Your Look A Week+ in Advance
You want to look good on your executive headshot, but dying your hair a day or two before a shot can have the opposite effect than intended.
Freshly dyed hair may turn out too vibrant on camera, ensure your executive headshot session is a week or two away, that way your hair will have taken on a more natural appearance.
If thinking about a fresh, new, but very different haircut, do it a few weeks ahead of your headshot photoshoot so you have time to adjust to the new you.
For men, don’t make any changes to your barber, so you know you’re getting a haircut you’re comfortable with.
4 // Be Recognizable
Should you hire a makeup artist for your executive headshot? There’s no right or wrong answer – it’s entirely up to you. However, the purpose of an executive headshot is to showcase your professional prowess. The makeup you wear should only enhance your natural beauty so the person in the headshot and the person in the office are one and the same.
Make sure your look is one that you are comfortable with after getting papered. You want these images to reflect the true you.
