Anyone who hasn’t be a part of a professional photoshoot before, or simply doesn’t like their photo taken, can sometimes feel a bit awkward when when posing for a picture.
It’s completely natural to feel a tad bit nervous before your senior photoshoot, but you still want your images to look natural, highlight your personality, and show off your style.
Here are a few ways that you can pose more naturally and enjoy your upcoming session.
- Keep It Light-Hearted
One way to feel more relaxed throughout your photo session is be a little silly and have some fun. Try to relax and enjoy the moment if you are feeling a bit anxious.
There is a thin line between nervousness and excitement. Try to feel more excited than nervous. They both give you little butterflies in your tummy.
The results are photos that look more authentic.
During a photoshoot, I love to get to know my senior clients better and make sure that they feel confident, comfortable, and enjoy themselves. When you are relaxed and having fun, the pictures become magical.
- Lean Into the Frame
One way to make your poses more natural is to lean into the frame. This needs to be very slightly done, almost as if you’re leaning in to listen to someone telling a story. If you tried doing this right now, you would immediately see how your posture and demeaner changes. Plus, you look batter on camera! Yay! You’re welcome.
- Keep Your Hands Busy
When you’re standing in front of a camera, so many times you then realize that you don’t know what to do with your arms and hands.
To stop your poses from becoming awkward, keep your hands busy. Place your hands in your pockets, twirl a finger around a lock of hair, or use some props. What you do with your hands depends on the photo style and story you’ve decided on.
- Get Moving
Not every photo needs to be "posed." Having movement in images are some of my favorite ones to create. Give yourself the freedom to move around and have some fun. Walk, spin, laugh, lay on the grass, do whatever makes you feel most like yourself. If you’re not sure what to do, ask me, your photographer, for some guidance – I am here to help.
Do something that will help you feel more relaxed before your session and let your photographer help you with the rest.
