This is an interesting question and one that can vary greatly from one photographer to another.

It can also depend on what kind of photoshoot that you are having (wedding, newborn, high school senior, engagement, family, etc.). 

As a senior portrait photographer, I can tell you that the industry standard for this kind of photography is about 30 images (depending on how long that photoshoot is scheduled for). 

However, in my photography, I focus on quality. A quality photoshoot experience and quality images. For this reason, for my typical senior photoshoot, I promise to deliver at least 60 quality images (twice what other photographers usually promise). But I usually deliver much more. 

Quantity Is the Key

There are many factors that affect the number of pictures that can be taken during a professional photoshoot. The location, the number of outfit changes, the number of people involved in the photo session, and what the overall goal of the photoshoot may be. 

To get it right, this all takes time. I like to work with my clients to ensure that they learn how to pose and feel comfortable in front of my lens. It all comes together to create art and memories that you will cherish for years to come.
