What To Wear For Your Professional Family Pictures

You've scheduled your family portrait and you are excited to get this family keepsake of the multiple generations. All you have to do now is decide what you're going to wear in the pictures.

You might feel like you want the help of a stylist for your family and you are not sure how to make everyone look good on camera. Do colors matter? Is there any significance in choosing specific styles? What accessories are good to use?

Here are some pro tips to help you with this fun dilemma of dress-up.

1. Choose Solid Colors (But Avoid White or Black)

Instead of a specific clothing style, color can be your dress code. This way you're ensuring a unified look without creating a uniform feel.

2. Don't Be Too Rigid About Attire

You can't expect everyone to look the same and you definitely don't want everyone looking identical. So instead, see if everyone can agree on a specific collection of clothing colors to wear. This will give everyone a clear idea of what can be worn and what can't. Everyone can still add their own personal touches to their outfit.

Layout all of the chosen clothes and accessories together to make sure there is a cohesive feel to the assortment. Make any changes as needed to ensure a coordinated look in your family portrait.

3. Give Clear Direction on Hair and Makeup (Ladies)

It is a good idea for the ladies to decide on certain parameters surrounding hair and makeup. Should everyone's hair be down, or are up-do’s allowed? Are there any makeup dos or don’ts?

4. Look At Pinterest for Ideas

If the family is struggling on deciding theme colors and style, then start a family group chat where everyone can share feedback on an outfit or idea found on Pinterest. Looking at other people’s family photos can spark a lot of creativity and designs points that you may want to use with your own crew.

Family portraits can mean so much. Children grow up, blossom into adulthood, and begin the next chapter – time waits for no one.
