We all want to look amazing in our pictures. I know I do. Let’s be honest, it is not always easy to feel comfortable in front of a camera. The good news is that there are a few simple tips that can instantly make you look more photogenic. You can thank me later for elevating your Instagram game.
1. Know Your Good Side
If there is one lesson that we can learn from Ariana Grande, it is the fact that she knows her good side. Take a few selfies to determine which side works better for you. You might feel like you look better on your right side or your left side.
Some people don’t know what side they like better (I personally fall into this camp), and that is okay too.
2. Define Your Best Facial Features
We all have certain facial features that we love about ourselves. If you know what you like most, then make it the dominate part of your photograph. Accentuate your best facial features. It could be your lashes, hair, cheekbones, eyes, smile, and so on.
3. Add Some Color to Your Face
Your face is a canvas. A simple tip that will always make you look more photogenic is adding some color to your face. Make your eyes pop. Define your eyebrows. Dab a bit of blush or lip gloss. Have fun and don’t overdo it.
4. Create Your Signature Pose
To stand out in the sea that is Instagram and social media, you can create a signature pose. Think about the pose that you are the best at. You can practice in front of the mirror for immediate feedback.
You could place a hand on your waist or in a pocket. Try a twist in your waist. Lean forward ever so slightly. Play around with various poses and see for yourself where you feel like you look your best.
5. Always Select an Area That Has Good Lighting
The importance of good lighting cannot be stressed enough. As a professional photographer, I know just how much of a difference lighting can make. Pro tip: try to look for natural, even lighting as much as possible.
6. Smile like a Pro
Knowing how to smile is an art. First, you want to look natural. If you can think of something funny or cute, then achieving a natural smile is a battle half won.
If you are smiling while showing your teeth, try placing your tongue on the roof of the mouth.
Also try to smile naturally with your eyes. Sounds weird, but it works.
7. Tilt Your Head Slightly
Tilting your head slightly makes you look less “posed” and more natural. It will make you more photogenic without much effort.
